Weekly Q&A and Progress Update — 8/19/2019

Happy Monday everybody - hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Here's this week's Q&A thread, where you can ask questions about the experience, what I'm working on, what my plans are for upcoming features, etc. - basically anything that's not tech support.

What I'm working on

With the release of 4.0.6 hf 1 & the first episodes of the LP, I took last week off to give myself a little R&R before getting back to work. I'm pleased to say that my time off was very helpful in recharging my batteries a bit, and I'm very excited to continue development on 4.1.0.

I don't want to give too many details on 4.1.0's new features, since development is still in very early stages & everything is subject to change, but a primary focus is updating any & all outdated mods, and the completion of the blueprints/recipes system for crafting, which will allow players to purchase/loot/collect blueprints/recipes to build out their crafting abilities. (This will also cut down on lag when using the Crafting Ledger, since every use will no longer pull up every recipe in the game.)

Alongside that, I'm looking at a few changes & additions to the current crafting workflow, as well as some larger changes to mechanics like divine worship, standing stones, racial abilities, etc. courtesy of Enai's Wintersun & Requiem tweaks by snbcj/Noxcrab/Segolia.

Once again, I stress that these are not guaranteed inclusions, but rather features I'd like to include if time & logistics permit. One of the strongest lessons I've learned from this project is that I suffer from significant planner's fallacy, defined by Wikipedia as:

A phenomenon in which predictions about how much time will be needed to complete a future task display an optimism bias and underestimate the time needed.

I'm trying very hard to account for this by making no direct promises that these features will be in 4.1.0. ;) That said, if they don't make the cut for 4.1.0, it's safe to assume they'll make it into a subsequent version, and I'll keep you guys posted on development progress as per usual.

Another lesson I've learned is the importance of testing - specifically testing by users besides myself - so rest assured that 4.1.0 & beyond will be properly put through the ringer to avoid any SNAFU's like the mismatched controls of pre-hotfix 4.0.6. ;)
